中原大地是华夏文化的摇篮，古刹少林则是其中的一颗璀璨明珠。嵩山少林寺创建于北魏太和十九年（公元年），孝文帝为了供奉他所敬仰的印度高僧跋陀，在嵩山少室山北麓敕建少林寺，建寺距今已历年。

为充分发挥少林得天独厚的国际文化交流窗口优势，挖掘历史遗产，弘扬民族文化，年由少林寺方丈释永信大和尚发起，与一批国内知名大德高僧、老书画家、学者及有识之士共同创办少林书画院，至今已历时二十七载。
